Default Horrible Gas Mileage

I'm stumped, guys. I have a '98 Ram 4x4 QC with the 360 and the 46RE and I just checked my mileage yesterday and got a whopping 9.2 MPG, all in town.

I recently changed the plugs, wires, cap and rotor at about 108,000 miles. The truck now has 114,500 on it.

My mods are as follows:
Cold air intake
LT headers
Off-road y-pipe
Fastman o2 simm
Gibson cat-back
MSD wires
Accel ignition coil
SCT tuning

I also had the intake plenum repair done a couple weeks ago.

At first I thought it was the tuner since I was only getting 9.6 MPG with it. So, I set it back to stock and got the 9.2 MPG mentioned above. Sean suggested that I get an air/fuel gauge so I did that. I haven't installed it yet, though.

As far as my driving habits go, I usually drive a little over the limit (38 in a 35, for example) and the tach shows roughly 2,000 RPM before shifting into the next gear. IOW, I drive like I'm 55 instead of 16.

Please help me figure this out. I'll post my air/fuel numbers as soon as I get the gauge installed.

EDIT: No check engine lights or anything like that come on, either. Everything is fine as far as gauges and lights go.

In winter, with in town driving and some 4x4 engagement, I used to get 9.5-10.5. With my Flashpaq (shouldn't be as good as your SCT, depending on who tuned it), I now get 10.5 to 11 in town consistently.

Will see what my summer mileage is when it comes.

Have you replaced your upstream oxygen sensor?

9 times out of 10 the answer to this problem is always that we are running on winter gas right now, it decreases your usual mpg 1.5-2 mpg......does this happen every winter? Because the 9.6 mpg is about 2 mpg less than what I'd expect you'd get in the summer with a 5.9L, I used to have one, thats all they get lol

No, I haven't done that. That could be an issue, huh? I'm not sure what the life expectancy is on o2 sensors.

Damn, that is pretty bad. No wonder Dodge redesigned these trucks. I've read that the FACTORY ratings are 11 in town and 14 on the highway with the 5.9. With my CAI, headers, tuning, etc. I expected to get at least 12-13 in town out of it. I'm not sure if this happens every winter or not because I just got the truck in late March of '08.

Thanks for the help, guys. Maybe these trucks are just that thirsty. :O

Get over it. You drive a Fu<king Dodge Ram with a 360ci V8. The truck itself was designed over 14 years ago(when gas was cheaper than beer), and the motor was designed in the 1960's. 2 reasons that contribute to your horrible fuel mileage.

Death Flash anyone?
