just doing the gears will be fine, unless you want/need a new diff. If your stock one is good , then re-use it. you can go with an aftermarket locker or LSD, they get pricy, but if your gonna do it, it would be wise to do it at the same time as the gears just to save money and downtime.

Again, if you do not know much about this (which you already stated) I would just suggest taking it somewhere local to get a price on it. Just tell them you want 4.56 gears and they will know what you need, and they will be able to give you a price. Shopping around would be wise too (if there is more than one shop around).

But, the one thing you will have to decide is if you want an open, limited slip, or locked differential.

Is locked really worth it if it is not constant off roading in this truck? And, would stock differentials make that much of a difference or is it something to worry about?

If its mosly steet driven I would suggest just a limited slip type, or, heaven forbid, an open diff.

And the stock axles should hold up just fine for normal to moderate abuse with up to 35's. More tire and abuse and things start to break quite easily (in the front anyway, the rear is fairly stout).

Yeah, it wont be a full time or LOTS of time mud truck. Daily driver, that will go out in the sunny south mud pits of Florida for the weekends

So my stock limited slip differential and axles should be fine for that. Correct?

Yep, well, for the rear anyway. The front may but it depends on what gears you have now. If you have 3.92 gears the carrier will work, but if you have 3.55's you will have to get a new carrier or thick gears (I recommend a new carrier, not too expensive).

I'm not sure If I have the 3:92 or the 3.55s, I think it is the 3:55. But, yeah I will probably end up getting the new carrier eventually.
