Regular cab 2500s came with 5.2 through 1996. Club cabs got the 5.9.

Oh, and the early 5.9 had only 230 hp-same as my 99 5.2 and only 10% more torque at 330 lb-ft. Not significant difference.

I'm not bored with my 5.2 at all, but that's with all of the extra goodies that my truck has. The 4.56 gears made a big difference with the 37" tires. Then with the exhaust, timing chain at 4*ret, Fastman TB, and the SCT tuner, I'm not likely to get bored with it any time soon. I personally will be looking to do the 408 stroker setup when my 5.2 engine finally goes, but until then, my 5.2 with the mods and the SCT tuner is very fun to drive. I think the HEMI engines should stay in vehicles that are used for racing, and the stroker motors for anything that's lifted and needs more low end torque than high end Hp. There's my $.02 for ya, and it's on me.

what gearing would be recommended with 35" tires on a 5.2 standard?

The experts would say 4.56 minimum.

what he said and be glad it's not a 4.6 ford, drove a 2005 4x2 f150 the other day and man what a slug. I'll never make fun of my 5.2 again, it could run circles around that 4.6 any day of the week.
