I drove down a road about 2 months ago in 4x4 drive and the road was very veryyyy bumpy. ever since then when i am in 4wd it make a loud clunk sound every once in awhile and it is starting to get worst i was on my way home tonight and it was quiet bad out and i had to stay in 2wd i was not happy.
i few people told me it could be the chain?? i dont know anything about 4wd the it only clunks when its in 4wd and its in the front it is a 2000 dodge ram 1500 5.9 reg cab please give me some tips or what i can do to fix this i cant afford a new 4wd lol and i dont think its bad i think something is loose

Sounds to me like a U-joint in the front drive shaft..You are only putting power to that shaft when you put it in 4wd so that is the reason you would only hear it then. I dont think it is the chain in the transfer case. I could be wrong but i would start with looking at the U-joints in the front shaft.

Newer ujoints in what? The axles or the front drive shaft? And where is the oil? At the axle or the DS?

Besides adding some comma's and periods to your sentences, I have a clunk issue also. Only once when I go in reverse with 4wd engaged. However, I have the front drive shaft out right now, and am waiting for the rebuild kit to come. I also have the Posi-Lok kit in it. So today for S's and G's I put the transfer case in 4wd high, put it in reverse and no clunk. So I know the transmission and rear end is ok, and the transfer case at worst is the chain. Or I might get lucky and it is the front drive shaft, but, the joints were not loose, as it was just squeaking at the Carden joint.

This happens to me in reverse and drive. it doesnt matter if i give it gas it will clunk at times it getting old i got it up in the air right now all the ujoints look ok to me there is no play in them and most all of them are new. I have no idea what it is but untill ig et it fixed i cant use 4wd it sounds bad like its gonna break.
