Question A slug in rainy weather

Alright, so this weekend we got nailed with a ton of rain. I took my truck out Saturday and it was acting kinda funny. When I first started driving it would accelerate and then seem to bog out. It did this a couple of times and then I jumped on it and it took off like a bat out of hell. After that, the problem was gone.

Then, last night I took it out (still raining) and it did it again. This time I was wondering if it wasn't the plugs, wires, or d-cap or something. I popped it in Neutral and gave it a little gas and it revved right up. After about a mile or two the symptoms went away (water dried up?). I went to Meijers and upon leaving noticed a pretty good sized puddle. Of course being the person I am and owning a truck I had to give my undercarriage a little bath. I pushed through the puddle at maybe 10 mph and instantly my problem started back up again. Then, once again, after about a mile it ran great again.

Any idea what it could be? I just re-built my trans (for those of you who haven't followed my posts) and replaced the governor pressure sensor and solenoid. I'm wondering if there isn't another sensor on the trans that is getting wet in the rain and malfunctioning until it gets dry?

Oh yeah, in dry weather it runs good! Weird

This was after I was already out of the puddle it started acting up again. For some reason it only happens when it is rainy out. The reason I am thinking it is a trans sensor or something is because the trans would most definently get splashed going through a puddle and like I said before, in Neutral my engine revs right up.

Hey,

my truck sorta did this a long time ago. it has sense quit. I never could figure out what it was. it seems to be obviously electrical.

I am really interested to see if somebody has found the problem.

Yeah. I'm thinking it might be an external sensor of some kind that is acting funny.

The governor pressure sensor and solenoid are pretty easy to replace. The only PITA is that you have to drop the trans pan to get to them. Once you do that you just disconnect the two electrical connectors and drop down the governor assembly. It takes I think 4 12mm bolts and 2 T25 torx bit bolts. You take that off and one sensor will wiggle out (it is held in place by an o-ring and the metal bracket that comes off too) and the other has a clip on the inside of the housing that you take off and wiggle out.

After that just put it back on and put the trans pan back on, etc...

Yea how did you come out with so little damage from hitting a sing?

Thanks for the info I'm going to get a deep pan new gasket and filter and the other parts and a temp gauge.

bogging in rain is most commonly an ignition problem, or water into the intake.

Check the coil and disty for cracks, and replace if any are found. Put a dab of dielectric grease on every point of contact for spark plug and coil wires. A ring around the bottom of the disty cap won't hurt either.

I wouldn't be giving the bottom of the truck an undercarriage shower if you're running an open element filter.

Well I'll give you a little background info first:

I was working about 60 hrs a week, going to school 12 hrs a week and taking care of my son (with my wife also) when not working. Needless to say that after all this went on for about a month or two I was tired almost all the time.

Back to the story:

I was driving home from school one day and about a mile from home I ended up dozing off for about 5 sec before a turn came up. I woke up to see myself heading into the curve doing 55 rather than the 30 that you should on the turn. Also, probably 100 yards ahead of me there was about a 3 ft diameter tree.

Well, I cranked the wheel hard left. I slid off of the road a little and fishtailed. Now I was on the shoulder but in line with the road at least. Next object I saw was one of those < signs that they put around turns. Well, I slammed straight into it and then came into the slope of a driveway and popped back out onto the road.

Needless to say I was thanking God that I was ok and that I didn't hurt anyone.

Damage:

As you can see, my front end got pretty banged up and my passenger side didn't bear much better.

Heres the list:
Dent in bumper
Cracked grille
Broken bug shield
Broken passenger side mirror
Bent antenna
A nice big scratch all the way down the side
Broken front axle stabalizer bar

Plus that may have been what led to my transmission problems a week later

Side note:

People may not know this (I didn't) but there are actually two signs. One with < for traffic one way and one with > for traffic the other way. Well, they back these signs up against one another. I went back the next day and I snapped both signs off at the base and they almost landed in the driveway about 15 ft away. If you look at the picture then you can see the angle that I was in the ditch when I hit the sign.

Overall it sucks that I screwed my truck up (it was pretty flawless except for a slight bit of rust) but at least I am alive and I didn't hurt anyone else.
