Everything with a distributor still needs a coil ... it's what steps the 12 volts up to 30k or 50k or whatever the secondary system wants. The "coil packs" are little coils directly in line with the plugs without a distributor.

Yes, you have one coil.

Thanks. Damn, I feel stupid. I can rebuild a transmission but didn't know that I had an ignition coil!

I still don't understand how a bad coil could cause my truck to run rough in low gears in the rain but great when I pop it into Neutral?

mine did the exact same thing. it eventually got to the point where it wasn't raining for a while, so i just forgot about it, then we got a huge snow storm, lots of wetness, and it finally just gave the boot and ran crappy ALL the time. idk, maybe your case is different. it's only 30 bucks for a OE replacement coil. just get one, replace it, test it out, if it doesnt work, then take it back lol

My manual trans truck has been having starting issues in the rain or moisture. At first I thought it was bad gas or parking it on the grass. Off to the parts store to buy a coil.

Or you could diagnose correctly and check the distributor cap for cracks, test the wires for resistance, check plug straps and gaps, put dielectric grease on the connection points, and the coil for spark and then you'll know what's wrong.
