Tuner
#21
Like I said, I'm not looking to buy a programmer for performance gains. I don't throttle up the truck anymore. I want it just to recalibrate my speedometer with the bigger tires. Does it offer a higher octane setting? I've always used high octane, it'd be nice to have the computer knowing I'm doing so. And whatever little performance it will offer, I will take since it's not what I'm looking for to begin with.

I did try the mileage tune for about 50 miles (I was anctious to try the other tunes). It didn't hold hills in OD as well but hey its ment for mileage and not power. I plan to test it out when I bring my truck back to school at the end of this month or next month for the 150 mile trip. I'll be able to tell if it does help or not by the gas gauge. It will be a rough estimate but I should be able to tell whether it makes any sort of difference or not because I know where the needle ususally is on the trip up.
To Jason.w , I've had the performance 91 tune on for 100 miles now. I put in $20 of 93 octane @ $2.17 = 9.2 gallons. All of the gas around me has 10% ethanol. Im not sure what octane the gas in the tank is but I can tell you that even with a mix of 3 week old sitting 87 (what was left ... around 1/8th tank on the gauge) and 9 gallons of 93 both with ethanol, I have not heard once single ping out of the performance tune. The one thing that I noticed with the performance tune is how overdrive acts. My OD used to kick in at 51 mph and would kick out if you touched 49mph (due to dodge pcm update). Now to get into overdrive you have to hit 50, but once your in it will stay in until around 45mph now. Keeps the shifting down which I like. It helps out a lot on the roads around here becuase people don't seem to keep a consistant speed on the hilly roads so you may dip down to 45, and then be back to 55, then to 50 etc. Jason I know your looking to do the modified intake, but don't be surprised to find the plenum gasket blown. That said...... im still on the stock gasket @ 102,xxx miles and has never been replaced (knocks on wood).
Im still on the edge of whether the superchips was worth it..... but, I think im going to keep it I just don't know how long ill be putting 93 in though because im a cheap ***. I didn't notice a difference with the 87 tune and seemed weaker than stock imho. Thats why im afraid to unprogram it from the 91 tune. :/ double edge sword I guess. Not having a mpg gauge makes it difficult to see if it helps that way but im working on that here soon.

Minnesota is going to 20% in all blends, I can't remember when. Soon though, if not already. They were 10% before.
87 octane gas with 10% ethanol (from a Minnesota gas station) gave me the worst highway mileage I have ever gotten (this was before the tuner). Granted, I had a tad of a head wind, but I got 11 MPG on the highway. And that was last summer! I don't want to try their winter blends.
I wish there was some place around here with no ethanol. Its actually driving a lot of local feed mills out of business because they can't compete with what the government is paying the farmers for their corn.

I posted a thread over at DT in the regionals asking if there was anything in the general area and no one has come up with anything. Around me, the Citco, turkey hill, BP, Sunoco, Wawa, etc all have it so nothing close for me. I will have to check out the exxon by me. We need to get a list going somewhere tho...

All very interesting feedback here on the super chip flashpaq. I guess I'm a little mad at myself for not giving it a chance last summer. The guy just made me nervous; it took him three hours to program the damn thing. Plus I got turned off because he said that if the transmission ship was still messing with the diagnostics that it would need to be set back to stock. N.E Transmission was still taking my truck back and forth so I got very turned off, I didn't want them making anymore excuses..
I also only tried it right out of the parking lot. I would just open it up right out of the shop, not knowing it needed to be driven for quite sometime. All I remembered it doing was it revving up quicker, but making the truck ping badly. I also had in the back of my head that I was spending $350, and that if I just spent an extra $250, I would have an SCT.
So I'm not really sure what to do on this one. I've already told myself I can't keep putting money into this truck. If I can find a tuner for cheap, I'll buy it for the speedo and octane thing; but I really don't want to spend $300+ if I'm not even opening this truck up anymore.
