more than likely its throwing your 02 sensor off which is returning bad signals to the engine for fuel/air ratio. something like that. thats probably why its doing it. i'm kinda having the same issue. except i didnt gut my cat. lol

I have the same issue...sometimes it sputters when driving home, but never when I go somewhere first thing in the morning. I started a thread "stones on the hood", last posted this weekend. You may get some ideas from reading it. I have a before-the-cat O2 sensor on order, I hope that fixes it.

I'm pretty sure that when you first start your truck the computer ignores the O2 sensor and then when it warms up it reads it and that may be when you get your problems.

Have you tried the spark plug non-fouler trick? I am going to do that to my truck as soon as I can break the damn O2 sensor rust seal between the threads and the exhaust!

You would probably have to search spark plug NON FOULER. I think you may have spelled it wrong. No biggie, it happens. Basically you go to AutoZone, Murray's, etc. and pick up a pack of spark plug non-foulers that are the same size thread as the O2 sensor. Then you take one and drill the small hole up to I think a 1/2". Then you unscrew your O2 sensor out of your exhaust.

Now, put the original (not modified) non-fouler into the exhaust port where the O2 sensor goes. Then put the modified non-fouler into the first one. Lastly screw your O2 sensor into the last non-fouler.

Basically all this does is pull your rear O2 sensor outside of your exhaust flow enough to where it will think that the cat is working right.

I believe Zman was the one who did the original write up and he might be able to supply more info or point you to the right place.
