Bad Fuel Guage
Hi. I have a 2000 ram 1500 sport 5.9 and i drove about 120 miles after filling up my tank and the gauge stayed at about 7/8 of a tank. i did put injector cleaner in after filling the truck with $36 when the guage was at a half tank. Is there anything i can do to fix the guage? i did clean off the cluster of guages and slightly moved some of them... could this have caused a problem?
thanks guys... every thing you guys said makes sense to me. it could be n e of the three. If the float is stuck is there a way to free it? how many gallons is the fuel tank and about how many miles do u guys get per tank?
is the spring for the needle difficult to fix?

Did I misread your post? Does the gauge top out at 7/8 and then not move for 120 miles or does it get to F and then after 120 miles, you're only down to 7/8?
I've got a 26 gallon tank and fill it up when the light dings on (about 1/8 tank). The most I've ever gotten out of it is ~300 miles. I routinely got 275-280 but this last tank looks like it will only take me 230-240. I've had to do a lot of driving in downtown Ft. Worth and recently swapped in my MP PCM. Feels great on the butt dyno but not so sweet on the wallet.

My fuel tank is 26 gal, and I think that is pretty standard. Sometimes running that Chevron Techron additive stuff for a while can help faulty floats and/or sending units, but it's hit or miss. I don't know what everyone else gets, but I am lucky if get any more than about 275 miles out of a tank on straight city driving. I mean, there are usually about 4 gal left when I fill up, so I know I could get more, but I don't like to suck that gas out of the bottom unless I have to...not healthy for the fuel pump/filter. I guess if I ran it bone dry, I would get about 300-315 miles out of a tank.

ok cool. i was just trying to get a ball part idea of how far i should run it before it needs refilling. I just got the truck 2 weeks ago and filled it up for the first time and it didnt seem rite, but i guess ill just drive it and see what happens.
TMS Bill. I think you read it right the first time. When i filled it... the guage went to full and has only dropped minimally since then... but maybe that is normal.
