Cold Air Intake a few ?'s
water in the motor is not a good thing... years back when I was young & dumb a buddy of mine owned a dune buggy that we took to pismo...
the whole story... long but worth the read...
17~18 years old, just outa HS and we're taking the Imperial Star Cruzer (AKA '69 buick electra 2dr with a 430 CID motor) down to Pismo Beach for the weekend. Leaving after work, we drove the 5~6 hours to get there and arrive at 12:30am or so. We find the entrance to the beach a total zoo... hundreds of people running around in 4x4's dirt bikes & atv's. Cool! we un-hook the DB, park the cruzer and head out down the beach. Beach is packed and we find it hard to believe the amount of people running around at 1~1:30am. so we're cruzing farther & farther down the beach... pass river #1... then (for you old enough to remember) pass river #2 (no blocked off)... and the crowds thin out considerably... to no-one at all. As we drive we are running along the shore line close to where the water breaks and the sand is hard packed...
We finally come across a power plant of some sort and decide to head back & setup camp. Well as we're following our tracks back we head over this mound of sand an splash into the surf that just washed up on the other side. as the surf pulled back, it took us with it. Jon (buddy) was able to keep the motor running and I immediately jumped out give any kind of shove to get it moving before the next wave came in. needless to say the next wave crashed down on us and the motor was flooded (stinger type of exhaust). After a few minutes of discussion, it was decided Jon would hoof it back to civilization for a tow and I'd stay with the DB in the surf. Keep in mind that it is roughly 3am now and I've been up since about 7am or so.
After about 10 minutes or so of figuring out that the DB was not going anywhere I decided to go "watch" from shore. 5 minutes later I was out like a light. I wake up to Jon grabbing my sweatshirt and shaking me back & forth frantically screaming "Where's the car? where's the car?" He stopped once I was awake and in an upright position as my heart sank thinking it got pulled out with the tide... when the eye's focused and I got my senses together I peered out into the surf only to see the DB right where I left it.
Jon & the kind sole he returned with were laughing so hard they probably had tears. After getting it out and pulling the drain plug (jk) to get all the water out of the tub, we towed it back to the cruzer and hooked it up to tow home. We ended up finding a spot to crash for a while then cruzed up & down the beach for the 1st time in the buick. Had a blast even though we had the "drowning" problem. We never drained the fluids and never hosed it off before leaving. What we found out later was that if we'd found a spot to flush the oil, brake & fuel lines, then removed all the water out of the motor, we would have been ok to get it fired back up & running. Needless to say after getting home, we yanked the motor and tossed in another one and returned another day.

The bumper most of the time but all of the mud that splashing into the engine area. I don't want to go put a pcv snorkel on my ram. I need a trail truck. Most of the time now I'm hill climbing. Now I want 4.10's.
no, a breather has nothing to do with it.....i wasnt even in deep water but the filter came out right in front of the flap by the radiator which i had pulled back and being a 2wd i was goin thru em fast so to not get stuck and it splashed up there and sucked it in......not even a ft deep.....didnt hurt the wall....the crank hit the bottom of the piston and locked the motor up.....all i had to do was replace the piston and rod and i was good to go
The one guy that i go wheelin with he was like you should get a breather for that intake your motor is going to suck all of that water in. This was at the car wash. I had to power wash the under side of the hood.
Heres what it looks like.
