Smile Transmission getting re-built.....AGAIN!!!

As some of you may know, I changed my tranny fluid and adjusted the bands a few weeks ago, and had shifting and slipping problems after...Took the truck to the Transmission shop(John's Performance Transmission Service in Aurora, Indiana)......
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...band-help.html

Fast forward to today- The tranny guy got to look at it and said that the bands had worn down and 3rd gear was shredded. He is now working on it doing a full re-build for $1,600. This really sucks because I had the original re-built by him only a couple of years ago(35,000 miles!). But it is good because I will now have a fresh transmission to pull my new camper with! Bittersweet feeling. Never again will I adjust those damn bands!!!!!

I was thinking about asking him about putting in a shift kit.

I think He is going to pt in a new torque converter. He did last time when he re-built it for $1,400.

You think $1,400 for 35,000 miles of trans life on a mostly stock Dodge Ram is an awsome
job?! Dude seriously.......

No, it wasnt a bad re-build that caused it to fail. I adjusted my bands and it burned out the bands. It was my fault.

Gotcha, I didn't read the post that closely.
If you have the trans out you should definately get a shift kit. I have a Fairbanks
transaction kit in mine and love it. I've also heard good things about Transgo.

Okay, my dad is going to call him in the morning and ask him about it. What does the Fairbanks shift kit do?

You mean you changed your dad's transmission fluid, your dad had the transmission rebuilt, and is having the new transmission built... Oh, and it's your dad's camper

If the forward band was worn down, it sounds like you had it too tight. When it's too tight, it won't release after 2nd gear, meaning it's just constantly dragging.

I didn't realize it was your fault that it failed. I knew you adjusted the bands, but I didn't put 2 and 2 together.
