Default The hood almost blew off

So my wife was doing about 45 mph down the road in my truck when the hood decided to fly up and nearly break the windshield. Luckily nobody was hurt...except for my hood. I don't if it was a faulty latch or if I didn't close the hood all the way but I am not usually in the habit of closing the hood without latching it; I did have it open before that drive. Anyway, the hood is bent and so are the spring hinges. How hard is it to remove or reinstall the hinges, is there a trick to removing or reinstalling them without loosing a finger? Also, do those hinges have another name because I can't seem to find them online. I found a primed hood for about $260...does that sound about right.
Thanks for any input on the hinges.

hey my hood has come unlatched 2 or 3 times since I've had the truck. Luckily I noticed it pop before the wind caught it and unlatched the secondary latch. I make sure I close it real good now, and haven't had any problems lately...

I did have this happen to me on 2 separate occasions in my old 85 Camaro I had when I was a teenager... I know the feeling, it's pretty scary to have your hood suddenly come up over the windshield. It ruined my hood, hood shocks, and both front fenders, but never hit the windshield... I drove it with the rear corners of the hood bent straight up like devil ears for a long time haha

take it to dodge. The hood latch was a factory recall. They knew it did it, and apparently yours wasn't fixed.

This happened to my dads friend...Dodge had to fix it.

Give it a try.

for real? what years does the recall cover? I might go look into it now for mine, I'd hate for my wife to be driving it and have it happen, and I might not notice sometime if it happens to me again.

Yeah...my dad had it done to his right after that happened to his buddy.
I believe it was through 2000, or whenever they went to the different bumper, that they changed it. So, if your truck was built before that...get it changed...NOW!!! You could be next...lol

You could always put hood pins on the next one if you're worried about it happening again. You know where they latch on the sides of the hood.
