Question bought a 01 ram. winding noise in reverse?

hey i just recently bought a 2001 ram 1500 sport quad cab truck. When i put it in reverse, there is this kind of loud winding noise. idk what it is? anyone have an idea? my old dakota did it once or twice, but thats it. im not sure what it is? could it be soemthing serious? i am going to take it to my mechaninc sometime soon to have him check evrything out and inspect it while im at school. the trucj has 114k miles.

probably the pump in the transmission. mine makes a little noise in reverse when cold, not so bad when warmed up. if that's your only transmission problem, i wouldn't worry about it. shifting and shuddering and no go problems are worth worrying over.

Cool

Hey Townsley4, I have been told it is due to the pump in the transmission does not circulate in reverse. So it is due to lack of fluid moving through the transmission. Everyone has told me it does not hurt anything but if it annoys you just slap it in neutral for a few minutes to let the fluid circulate then leave. It helps some but you can still hear it if its not warmed up.

It is a problem, but nothing to worry about yet as stated above. And no, they did not come from the factory like that.

Try a search, this has been covered a lot on here. Generally, it is a common issue that is not a problem (unless it is something else that is a problem).
