installing headers
the plan is to installed headers that run through a y pipe into a single pipe, then have that split to either the muffler or electric cutout. the headers have a 3" collector and i was going to order a 3" cutout. i was thinkin about runnin 3 inch pipe from the headers to the y and have a 3" single out with the cutout right after they go into a single pipe. then of course have to other pipe run back to the muffler and out the tail pipe. does all this sound good? also does anyone have any advice for installing the headers?

yeah ive heard that but on one of those exhaust calculators online it said 2.5 would be best. so i was thinkin of runnin 2.5 back to the muffler so i could see if i noticed a difference between the 3 inch dump after the y or the 2.5 goin back to the muffler. im going to put a high flow muffler. if i notice a difference i can just chop it up and redo everything.

mufflers suck. mine has headers to the stock y-pipe through 1 pipe to the stock cat through 1 pipe for a couple feet to a y-pipe that replaced my 40 series flowmaster then on to the rear end through 2 pipes coming out behind the back tires on either side. mine is 2.5" and sounds pretty good so you shouldn't have any complaints about sticking with 2.5.
what kind of headers are you getting? mine has the back pipe that curves up then back down to the collector. if you have that style then you're gonna have some fun getting the back bolts on under that pipe, and you will have to just feel for the torque because you can't get a socket on it, so no torque wrench.
also, don't do a header wrap, all its gonna do is rust out the headers and make them look like swiss cheese under the wrap, if you're concerned about heat in the engine bay then get ceramic coated headers.

to sherrif420.yeah gettin em installed isnt gonna be a problem. im good with mechanics i just wasnt sure about all the pipe sizing and all. im getting some long tube headers the run into a 3 inch collector. i just wasnt sure what size piping throughout the seperate parts of the rest of the system. how did you connect your headers to your stock y and then through your stock cat with 1 pipe if the stock car has 2 pipe inlet. and to dakotas_ram you say my truck will be a dog. that sounds like a good thing but you said it sucked on your truck? do you drive a ram 1500 also. whats do you mean by a dog

i got shorties, direct bolt on. my stock cat has 1 in 1 out, with the o2 sensors on the pipes.

What kind of headers are those Sheriff? You have any problems with melted wires? I'm just going off that last pic, maybe it's an optical illusion, but it looks like your wire is about 1/4 inch away from the header.
