Default Dodge Power

I have a 99 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.2L with a 5.5" lift with 35x12.50's on it. i want more speed and power my truck is so slow. I have a air intake on and a hypertech programmer. i have duel straight pipes as well. the truck is very loud but when u stomp the gas it goes no where. im tired of it being so slow. what are some things i can do to make it faster and the price for all the stuff?

Regear. 35" tires calls for at least 4.10 gears. If you have 3.55s with those tires it will be a pig no matter what you do to the engine.

You could spend thousands on gears, headers, exhaust, larger TB, cam
BUT you still have a 5.2 engine. In my not so humble opinion, that just ain't big enough.

well the 5.2 isn't far behind the 5.9. But, if he has done a lift and added bigger tires, and left the factory gearing in there, that is his problem.

Or it could just be the fact that he doesn't realize that these trucks get between 170-200 HP at the rear wheels.... (Just a range depends on your engine mods.)
Never forget, the base design for the magnum motors was developed in the late 60's/ early 70's.

Would putting a lift and larger tires on a truck require torque or HP? I thought that setting something in motion required torque, where as moving a weight at high speed requires power. Or is it the other way around?

You could be putting out 1000 HP and torque, but if you have 3.55 gears (or worse) on one of these trucks, with oversized tires like those 35 inchers, you won't have any get-up and go down low.

You need 4.10 gears recommended minimum, like Miami_Son said. 4.56s might even be considered, depending on the type of driving you do and/or if you ever want to go even bigger in tire size later on.

Now my truck has the same problem. I only have 33's should I still get the 4.10 gears?

4.10's might be too much. 3.92's would be perfect but it would probably be more worth it to go 4.10 and then get bigger tires =]

would new gears really make it much faster or a lil faster. my budy has a chevy 1500 single cab with a 6"susoension lift and a 3" body lift and has 37x13.50's on it. he has the 5.7L in the truck. i know chevys are geared different but he totally whoops me in a race i could have a 20 car head start and still lose does the gears really matter that much or does the engine size the big problem but if it is his engine aint that much bigger

Not to be a dick, but 4.10s are acutally perfect for 33s. Thats the exact setup i have. Anything more is overkill, and 3.55s are horrible. If your running 35s, personally id at least get 4.56s. But yes, at the very min. get 4.10s and youll notice a big difference.

That or ....get a 5.9
