Default Hi all, brand new here... 5.9 question

Hi guys. I have a great running 5.9 in a 95 4x4 ram but the rest of the truck is no good. Can someone tell me what years the motor will fit/hook up to?

There's a guy on craigslist that has a nice looking 99 but it's a 318 and the motors no good. I'm pretty sure my engine will bolt in but will the harness/computer stuff hook up? I'm assuming it must be different with a 96 and up obd ll...

Thanks,Doug

Welcome.
The motor will fit any 1995-01. Some 02's and 03's had them but they are few and far between. I want to say it should fit. There just about the same.

Yes, it will fit, just one problem. Your 1995 engine has EGR and the 1999 motor doesnt. You will have to tell the guy to swap the intake and exhaust manifolds.

Wow,that was fast!

So all the wiring to the engine is the same 5.2 or 5.9 94-01,or will i have to swap over my computer and harness? His intake and exhaust manifolds will bolt up to my engine?

The computers are different. 1995 and below have an OBD1 PCM. The 1996-1997 PCMs were a hybrid OBD1/OBD2.
The PCMs are different between the 3.7, 5.2, and the 5.9.

So if i find something that came with a 5.9,94-01,my motor should hook up to the vehicles harness or did they change them with different years?

Sorry for all the newbie questions... my first dodge. Having no luck with the forum search.

Does anyone have a link to a thread with more info...

Thanks for the help

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but did you check the "keep my logged in" or "remember me" or whatever checkbox below the username/password fields?

If so, what web browser are you using?

To the original question:
It won't be so simple. The PCMs will be different, sensors will be different, all the vehicle's wiring will be different. Not to mention the tranny is slightly different (46RH compared to 46RE). Not sure if the hydraulic/electronic components have anything to do with the PCM, but I think they do. Monte C can address that if he finds this thread.

Its best that you find something of the same model year, then you just have to switch over the PCM itself, sensors can be left alone, wiring can be left alone.

Sorry that wasn't the answer you were looking for.

if you use the intake that came with the truck its going into, then you dont need to worry about any wires or anything
