pcfixer, how much was that gasket you bought? i went to the dealer and gave 20$ for the plastic/rubber one that looks identical to yours. they are nice because you can re-use them if the rubber isn't damaged.

Napa sells my kit (filter and gasket) for $60 locally, but I had gotten a hookup so mine was only $30.

well, the filter/gasket kit i got was from advance auto parts. there didnt seem to be any difference in the filter from the one i had and the new one. i dont think the filter was crap. just the gasket was. and when i said "leaking from its usual spots" i mean that my tranny usually will leak a little fluid from the seal between the tranny and transfer case. nothing big at all, barely noticeable, but you can see fluid. i'm not too worried about it, and dont have the money to be taking it to a shop to get it fixed anyway.

I'm sorry, but, you may not see a difference , but made in china is crap. If it's in the box it's junk. It's not going to have a good filter and a crappy gasket. Should have gotten a WIX and you would not have had the aggravation you just went through. Just sayin'

My bad xavier....didnt mean to degrade you to a crew chief. As far as you t-case goes, where are the cracks? You are right that you will see a lil leak from the out put to the front and rear diffs. If its just the outside case that is cracked.....as long as its not leaking then I wouldnt worry about it.

Hey now, let's not hate on crew chiefs. I'm a C-130 crew chief. Someones gotta guard that fire bottle!

Anyways, about those transfer case cracks. I think I know what your talking about, and have attached a picture. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
These "cracks" could be seen both outside and inside my old transfer case.
