Oh geez. Carfax doesn't mean squat. It is dependent upon people *actually reporting* any issues with the vehicle in question.

How long did the fire guy poke around the wreck before pronouncing the fire due to a short ? Please tell me more than 5 minutes.
What is even powered on to cause a short, with the truck just sitting there ?

I'd be looking for a snipped fuel line, a clean cut should be obvious even after the blaze.
Alls it takes to to that is some snips, a styrofoam cup, a lighter, and the will to do it.

Well the fire fighter looked around for about a half an hour. He says he figures it was a short in the gas tank. He figured that because i only had an eighth of a tank of gas at the time and he said that empty fuel tanks are actually more dangerous and easier to blow up. ...NOW this is all coming from a volunteer fire department that maybe at most gets a fire once a year. (not try to say any thing bad about the fire department or offend them in any way. I support them all the way)

Well form my time in the fire service you can tell that in the 1st pick the color change is and the bent frail rails. If it was motor there would be no front bumper and the tail gate might still have some paint on it.

ya we know it started in the back because when we first saw the truck the flames were coming out from underneath the back of the truck.

Well yeah, I hear ya there, doesn't sound like an expert opinion though.
I'm sure its not something they'd call the state arson lab over ,,, And that type of professional opinion is just what you'd need to have any hope trying to prove it was a defect.
Didn't you think it was kinda funky for someone to tell you that a truck, just sitting there in the middle of the night, was the victim of a catastrophic short ?

Maybe you can try the state police, if you tell them you suspect foul play they might send a team out, and they typically have far more resources and expertise than any local/county team could ever hope to have.

that actually sounds like a great idea thank you and to answer your question about what is powered when the truck is just sitting there...i'm not sure with these things being so computerized now days, BUT i do know for sure that the alarm was because i always locked before i went to bed.
