Default Calipers from 98 2500 on a 1500??

I want better brakes on my 5.9 1500 4x4.

I am going to change the wheelcylinders to the Chevy and want to upgrade the front as well.

I was searching for answers about fitment from the 2500 7300 caliper but I can not find them.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks and greetings,

Erik.

Didn't get the answers from that "other" forum, eh?

My 2500 has dual piston front calipers and stops on a dime. They fit my rims no problem. If you have the typical single piston 1500 calipers, then you will see better braking with these 2500 calipers. Unfortunately, not all 2500s got the dual piston caliper upgrade. Appears to be a towing package option. Make sure the ones you get are duals.

Upgrading the rears won't result in a huge improvement unless you tow or haul a lot. There just isn't that much weight on an empty truck to make the rears work effectively. The fronts end up doing most of the work. That's why ABS is standard on the rears. Too easy to lock them up when empty.

That's why I said to make sure they are dual piston. My truck was made in September 1999, but has duals because of the factory towing and camper packages. Some 2500s have singles.

Mine also have the towing package, but the calipers are the same as stock?

I have looked at Rockauto but they are verry expensive with shipping bevause they use Fedex instead of USPS.....

Fedex is faster than ups. Have u looked at napa or other auto parts stores near you?

So are you guys saying that us 1500 guys can go and get dual piston calipers from a 2500 or a 3500 and that will fit without changing the rotors

I don't think there's any issue with the rotors. What I'm unsure about is if the caliper mounting bracket is the same or if the dual caliper bracket will bolt right onto the 1500 axle.

Bone yard for me. Calipers are really very simple devices. Even if you had to rebuild them, it is easy and cheap to do.
