Default Aftermarket Guages

Most of you know about my rebuild. When or if I ever get my engine back and its all installed and all that I'm adding guages. The original plan was a Auto Meter Cobalt Wide-band and a Cobalt digital trans temp guage. I have both of these already. Just got the trans temp guage in the mail today.

Before I buy the a pillar pod I wanna make sure I don't need any other guages. I thought about a DPIC but I can find out everything but g forces at the track if I ever go.

I did buy a hi-flow oil pump which has me slightly worried about oil pressure. Should this be a concern? Do you guys think I should get a oil pressure guage?

Only other thing I could think of would be a water temp guage. I don't really see that as being real beneficial cause if the stock guage gets high enough I know theres a problem.

PC and me have joked around about a PSI guage and hooking it up to my air horns so I know what I got in the tank. The compressor should keep up and that wouldn't do much either though.

Thoughts?

Heres what I got. Before the install which ever color bezel I decide to use the other one will be shipped to auto meter to be changed. Yes I'm crazy enough to spend 20 bucks to have them match

are you sure those gauges will fit in the pillar pod? with the oil pressure deal, your gauge should to read right but you ought to pm a couple guys on here that have the high flow pumps and see what they think.

what kind of air horns do you have? i am thinking of trying to find some 18 wheeler horns for mine. right now i have the autozone dual horn setup with the compressor that pumps air to make em blast and it doesn't have a tank. what i'd really like is the train horns but thats 230$ and i don't know if a horn is worth all that.

why is it taking so long to get your engine back? you should demand a discount after you get it back because it took so long.

Yeah they will fit. I know they look small but they are the usual 2 1/16 52MM guage.

The horns I got are off a truck. I got them from a buddy in a neighboring fire company. When they went to check on their tanker that was being built the place had a pile of horns. He asked to have a set and they said sure. He took them off his truck and gave them to me. I bought the tank off him. I believe its a 5 gallon but not positive.

I've got several guages in mine.

I have a triple a pillar pod from rpm outlet ( http://www.rpmoutlet.com/propodsa3.htm )

1) Cobalt Volt Meter ( http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugede...id=3817&sid=69 )
- I have found in the past the stock volt meters are not accurate. When you have audio equipment, winches, and a **** load of lights in the truck i prefer to know exactly what my volts are reading.
2)Trans temperature Gauge
- I am in the process of deciding whether i want to stick with cobalt trans temperature or the Sport Comp trans pressure
3) Sport Comp Air Pressure ( http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugede...id=2838&sid=15 )
- I have the pressure gauge inside the truck just to keep an eye on the tank... that and i know when the air horns are gonna be the loudest lol. (mind you i've already got tickets because of that thinking lol)

In the engine compartment

I drilled a 2 1/16 hole in my windshield motor compartment just beside the vacuum unit for the cruise control and i mounted another air pressure gauge (with a toggle switch for internal gauge light for night use). I drilled a small hole for a quick disconnect air fitting beside the gauge. This way i can charge the tank, connect my air line inside the engine compartment where its free from dirt and debris, and while im using the air tools/air hose i can monitor my air pressure. Everything is hooked up via the pressure relay, so the unit only turns on when it gets below 100 psi.

My truck is wired to the nuts... i had so much wiring i made my own wiring harness. I have similar air horns as you do by the looks of it, i have 4 in total though.

If you are looking for another suggestion for the gauges, i would buy the triple a pillar gauge, you can always add another one to pillar later. The other solution i have seen is there is a single pod that fits replaces the steering wheel cover. (
http://www.autometer.com/cat_mountsd...=4&mdl=62&gw=0 )

I have seen some where the pod is on the opposite side, it just depends on whether you want the steering wheel pod to block your rpm's or your speed heh.

I guess more importantly, what do you use the truck for most? another solution is EGT's even if your not running diesel it can still be useful to know what going on with your temperature. Let me know what you use your truck for most and i'll give ya some suggestions

You've never heard them before? OMG, your in for a surprise... i wont ruin it.

These things are too funny... Warning, you can and will get a ticket by your police if your not careful. I already did hehehe... In case your curious what for, there is a probably a section in your state highway safety act that goes something like this... "un-necessary use of a your horn... " ( i was surprised to find out too... technically if a cop is having a really bad day he could ticket everyone in a wedding procession that is honking their horn. The horn is intended for emergency situations only... )

I would highly recommend you take the time to make the horns as stealth as possible. Unless you know where to look, you can't find mine. If you havent installed these yet, i would highly recommend an air gauge then, its nice to know when your tank is "charged" and ready to disturb the public hehehe.

i doubt the cops around here would ticket anyone for a horn no matter how loud. i've seen quite a few stories on this forum that make me glad that i don't live in one of the northern or midwestern states. or california, california has some really retarded laws. and nothing beats a train horn btw.

boost gauge if you're ever going to SC, turbo, or spray it.
