well it wasn't the brakes after all. i got new tires and haven't had the vibration since. don't ask me how the tires did it but i don't feel the vibration any more so i'm not complaining.
it may have something to do with the ameritrac general tires having a really squishy sidewall.

 

I posted a thread on something similar to this. I'm thinking it could be a warped rotor like mine has and picks up the vibration when you hit the brakes. Can you feel the vibration through the brake pedal when you hit the brakes?

 

when mine was vibrating it wouldn't do it every time i hit the brakes. when you have warped rotors it will vibrate (pulse) every time. i did feel it through the pedal and in the whole front end of the truck.

 

thats exactly what mine does. I got rid of the vibration while driving by having the tires rotated and balanced, but it's just in the brakes now

 

how old (thin) are the pads? and when is the last time you had the rotors turned?

 

The pads are about .4 inches thick, but the problem is in the rotors, they have grooves in them.

 

pull them off and take them to either oreilleys or a tire/brake shop to have them turned. don't let them charge more than 10$ a rotor either since you'll have them off the truck. it used to be 6$ each at advance when they still did it and a local tire shop used to charge the same amount as long as they were already off the truck.

 

That's because the bands inside the tires can move and make the tire out of balance and/or out of round. And they can even flat spot if the vehicle sits for an extended period of time.

 

those old tires were junk anyway. the sidewalls had a wave to them, so the bands moving around is a good possibility.
