abs brake light

abs brake light
I just bought a 2001 ram with 150000 miles. After I start it up and drive a couple of minutes, the abs and brake lights come on. I replaced the Diff speed sensor and pulled the battery cable, that seemed to fix the speedometer but not the abs and brake light. Cruise works good also. Any ideas?

If speedo still works and abs light is on, sounds like speed sensor in the back.

I am interested to see if if he has any luck fixing it. My ABS/Brake light come on and have been doing it the same way for over 2 yrs. I replaced the speed sensor in the rear diff but it didn't do anything except make my wallet $40 lighter. Now I am trying to just cover up the lights so I can get my truck inspected.
First Dodge truck and probably the last one. I cannot afford to replace the front wheel sensors right now if that is where the problem lies.

Thanks for the replies, any help is appreciated. I did notice tonight that the lights came on will sitting still and never taking it out of park. I did not touch the brake pedal. Does that eliminate the wheel and speed senors as the problem. I also checked for leaks and did not see any, haven't noticed the fluid level going down either.

Did you verify that the front pistons and rear wheel cylinders are operating correctly? If it were a problem with the front, the truck would pull to one side under braking. If it were a problem with the rear, the braking performance will be poor but it can go unnoticed. A bad wheel cylinder can cause the light to come on. Everyone in this forum always points to a sensor, but there expensive and although easier to change, not usually the problem.
Also the code is stored in the system until you disconnect the battery for 30 seconds, which may explain why it popped up sitting in the driveway.

ok, I disconnected batt cable and turned ignition to clear the codes. Started her up and left it in parke and did not touch brake pedal and.... lights came on at the exact time they have been coming on. Seems to me this would rule out wheel and speed sensors, brake lines, calipers, warped routers, bad bearings. But I'm the first to admit, I'm no expert.

I think there is a problem pulling the abs codes on certain years using the jumper in method. I believe there is a special code reader just for ABS codes. My lights will stay off until one of a few things happens, like pulling out of my parking spot at work and turning left, or turning left at the gas station after driving 10 miles to get there, I thought it was maybe crud on the front sensors so I pulled the backing plate and cleaned them off really good,no change. But at least I found that I need to replace the ball joints so I pu tthat on my to do list right next to covering up the crappy cracked dash and replacing one of the cats, one of them is rattling. I do notice that my speedo has a bit of lag time in it so I think I may try one more rear speed sensor and I think there is another one in the tranny that is fairly cheap. I tried to remove the bulb for the lights so I could at least get it inspected but those are the ones you cannot get to for some reason. Once I get this truck inspected I am just going to park it and start driving my AMC/Jeep Cherokee. Still a gas hog but no worse than the 14 I am getting from the V10
