Default V6 Upgrades

I know this isnt a popular subject here but please bear with me. im not looking to make a beast out of a V6. i want to do a few upgrades to pull a few more ponies and mpgs out of this truck.

what things would you do to it?

please do not say engine swap.

i was thinking, CAI, Exhaust, E-Fan and maybe a throttle body? anything else?

i have this truck for a light duty daily driver. i dont use it as a truck all that often but i do occasionally pull a small 2 horse trailer or a boat but only about 30 miles or so around my local area. other than that, its an occasional trip to the lumber yard and such. nothing serious.

im mostly trying to make the most of this truck. i understand that making an engine more efficient will add to the power and mileage. am i overlooking something in my list above?

edited to add: my truck is a 2wd swb 98 ram with a v6/auto. its completely original with 186K miles on it. the only thing thats been replaced is the fuel pump.

I wouldn't do anything too dramatic on an engine with that many miles.

with your small engine, i wouldnt get efans unless you have one of the high alts or upgrade yours, also, dont open up your exhaust and intake too much or you could lose your lowend.....im pretty sure that the v8 throttle bodys will fit but theres something about the tv cable

It's a small engine on a heavy truck, don't waste your time and money, you wont really get anything much out of it.

im not looking to invest in making this thing a hot rod. i know its not possible. im just wanting to get a little more out of it.

im gonna do the sea foam treatment as well as the oil change and swap the spark plugs. also some more basic maintenance like the ABS sensor is bad, belt needs replaced and something in the exhaust is rattling. those basics should bring a bit more out of it anyway. the exhaust needs replaced so why not upgrade it a bit while im down there? might make my own CAI or somehow improve the airflow and wire up a basic e-fan from the parts store.

If your exhaust is rattling that means you need a new cat (most likely), that will certainly free up some horses right there. If you add an e-fan from a parts store I would not recommend removing your motor fan. Most of the fans at the parts store are cheapy, small, add on fans not meant to be the main fan. The reason most people here haven't gone with an e-fan is that the correct set up for these trucks can be rather pricey, and certainly more expensive than the fan clutch. If you do take it off, be sure to keep an eye on your temp gauge.

That's a tuning fix that Dodge did a few years back to our trucks to eliminate a possible pinging or knocking situation. Even if you didn't complain about knocking or pinging they just did it anyway. Do a search and you can read through all the threads about it.
