Not to prolong this as I'm no tranny expert, but I just don't see how there could be such a discrepancy as a far as a drain and refill goes. The manual shows a difference in total capacity because of the differences in tranny models and things like towing packages that add coolers and additional capacity to certain RAM models. But it states specifically that a drain and refill takes 4 quarts, period. That's because all you are draining is what is in the pan and what falls out of the servo body and accumulator. Nothing drains from the torque converter, the radiator or any external cooler when you simply remove the pan. I would guess it wouldn't be an exact 4 quarts, but I doubt the difference would be more than a half a quart, a full quart at the very most.

It would be great if MonteC would chime in on this.

Drive it and keep an eye on it. I had my tranny cooler line blow off and it took a few days of checking to finally get the right amount in there.

Put your foot on the brake and go through all the gears with a 3 second pause in each gear up and down. do it like 3 or 4 times then just drive like normal and check the fluid. Im sure your like me and you always think the worse but I would not rush to think you put to much fluid in just yet, if it still reads high after a few days then i's start looking into draining fluid.

I agree with you on this and I'll back up you hypothesis with actual fact. When I did my drain and fill it took exactly 4 quarts. No more, no less. I was actually surprised since I was used to changing my Honda's tranny fluids more often and that sucker was like 3 and 2/3 quart. Had to add little by little until it leveled out. The RAM is much easier.
