im a turbo kinda guy. theyre all ive ever worked with. theyre more efficient. but no one makes kits for a 2nd gen ram. i wanna know whats the difference between roots and centrifugal and screw styles. which one is better for what?

i mean i wanna know about supers. i forgot to state that. i wanna know about those super chargers

SC's are easier to set up, but I am like you. I don't fully see why everyone pushes a super charger over a turbo. Maybe it's ease and nothing more. I dunno.

What I do know is this: You can not put boost on a magnum motor and expect it to hold for very long, with out upgrading to forged internals.

this i am aware of. but my stroker kit will be all forged and internally balanced. but thats a bit down the road

Even then your only going to be able to put in about 5 psi of boost. That would be maximum. Typically, your going to see in the real world about 2-3 psi. Granted on average, your looking at about 25HP per PSI, so you'd be in the 40-100 range in terms of HP gain. There are SC kits for the v8s, but no turbo. Generally, you have to make a turbo kit. I had kicked around the idea of doing this in my next truck, but I am a little gun shy, since I can't see spending over 6K to gain 100HP. Would it be cool? Yes. Piratical? No. What ever my next vehicle might be, I expect it to be a reliable daily driver, and not something that I have to worry about not starting for me on those mornings when I am late for something.

To my knowledge, you would be the first on this forum to have a gas burning 2nd gen under boost. I say do it, but I don't see the full point.

well under 7 psi i know that boost is actually more efficient. were talkin mileage gains up to 33% and hp as well. but the super starts pulling horsepower off the motor at higher rpms, which my motor will never see anyway. but your right. the novelty would be cool, i would love to be explaining that whine under my hood. but turbos are definitely more efficient. their boost curve is non linear. you should check out sts turbos. definitely some of the coolest stuff ive seen in a while

Our 1987 Trans am Drag car has an STS setup. Personally, considering the quality, and how well the customer service over at STS is, it's the only thing I'll run. They are uber easy to install as well. I shy away from them because of how the filter locations are back with the turbo, and with a 4x4 truck, and me living on a farm, it wouldn't be a good combo.
Now the trans, only sees track time, and that's it. It wont even pass an inspection.

I was considering STS until I found the Paxton Supercharger I'm running in my truck now. If a blower is what you want, a smaller pulley might be what you have to get. It will boost faster, so your fuel maps will have to be written to compensate for it. But the smaller pulley will allow you to get more boost at lower RPMs.
