Alright Update. I got the truck, Drove it home. Runs pretty decent. ( i know you dont know me, But I cant leave anything stock) Anyhow about the noise, Its a bearing in the rear end. I have the dana 60 front, sterling in the rear according to the sticker uner the hood. Makes a growling noise under load. Waiting for it to cool down a bit and I am going to tear into the rear end. The noise is there as long as your on the gas pedal. Get louder/faster with speed. Got an ABS and a brake light while I drove it home.
Well The diagnosis is: Ring and pinion, There are several teeth on the ring gear that are severely damaged. Got a good enough deal that I dont mind it though. Gotta find some gear for a 4:10
IIRC, it has a Dana 70 if it's a lite duty 2500, and a 60 if it's the HD model. I might be and am probably wrong. LOL But it might tell you what you have on the sticker under the hood.
His front axle is a Dana 60 and his rear is...
5.9L V8: Dana 60
V10/Diesel with Auto Trans: Dana 70
V10/Diesel with Manual Trans: Dana 80
setting up gears is easy pie. when i first did it by myself, instead of somebody being there with me, i pulled and reshimmed the carrier and pinion about three times to make sure i had it right. of course it took me over a day to do it, but i know that i did it right and i wouldnt settle for less than perfect.
Yeah Its kind of a time thing right now. Havent decided if I an going to give it a go, Otr just drop a few bones and let the guys that do it everday take care of it.
