Default 1999 2500 4x4 , Ticking/thumping noise from the rear end

Got a great deal on this truck. only 114K miles. Has an odd ticking noise form the rear end area. I havent had time to look at it yet. Any thoughts before i tear into it?

UPDATE!!!

Sorry I did not get up to speed when I origionally looked at it. Its a grinding noise under power, When you let off, Its gone!

Does it under acceleration mostly. Very odd, Never had this before, I have always had chevys, but thought I would try dodge, Tired of IFS on a 4x4

Could be as simple as a stone in the wheel. Broken spring or something in the brake drum, maybe a ujoint or wheel bearing. You sure it's coming from the rear? Sometimes the noises and vibrations can be very deceiving as to where they are actually coming from.

Yeah I am pretty certain its coming from the rear. I will get it home tonight and see what I can find, These rear differentials are bulletproof fom what I have read. Its a 2500, so its pretty heavy duty. Not sure what it is yet as for as the differentials go.

IIRC, it has a Dana 70 if it's a lite duty 2500, and a 60 if it's the HD model. I might be and am probably wrong. LOL But it might tell you what you have on the sticker under the hood.

I am just looking for ideas. or anything I should check for that is known to be problematic. I am pretty sure it needs an intake gasket, But that cake.

If the cat is plugged i will take it off and punch it out and weld it back in place. I am a FAA certified welder adn A&P mechanic, so I am not afraid to tear into things, Just dont have much mopar experience. Sold my last truck a 1993 silverado with 181k miles on it about a month ago. Found this truck and I am pretty sure its a good deal , Very clean and straight.
