another 46re questions...sorry guys
ok so i took my truck to my local tranny shop. this guy is completely honest and has fair prices too. well he took it for a test drive and told me that there wasnt a 3rd or 4th gear. i already knew that. then he told me the only thing he can "see" wrong was that the transmission cooler was way too small for my transmission. he then went on to checking to see if the computer was spitting out any codes, which there werent any.
ok so after that i was tlaking to my brother (pervious owner). and he told me that the only time he got it into third was in the morning when the truck was cold.
so im almost positive that my transmission runs way too hot and thats the reason i cant get out of 2nd gear.
is there any of you guys that can point me in the right direction of a beefier transmission cooler and radiator that i can use.

As stated above replace the tranny cooler with an aftermarket one that will cool much better than the small flukes in the radiator (bypasses the radiator totally) and remove the check ***** in the tranny line. They will swell over time and cause restriction in the line which will overheat the transmission. I just had mine rebuilt after 30k to find out that the check ***** were not removed and instead of a new torque converter an old one was installed.

I thought you said thats the reason it never goes into 3rd or 4th was Because it is overheating. The way you talked before it sounded like it has been over heated plenty of times. And that was the reason that it wouldnt go into 3rd or 4th. Because it was infact overheating.
So now you say that the tranny was never tooo hot.. So why would you replace the cooler if thats the case? Im really confused now.

im not sure why it doesnt shift into third but on cold days my bro used to take the freeway to work only because it would allow him to shift into third and maybe fourth. but after work when it would be warm, he would have to take the streets home.
ive never had the truck on the side of the road smoking from it over heating.
im still a noob at this so please bare with em.
