Yes, a cotter pin will most definetly do the trick.

The factory clip is just a piece of plastic that snaps into the linkage and then the tip of that rod snaps into it. In a pinch you could just pop the rod through the linkage and wrap bailing wire around it, so you could drive it.

Don't forget the Duct Tape! No home repair is ever complete without Duct Tape.

Go to your local parts stores and see if any of them have a pack of this part# 14041 in the HELP! section.

Using a clip or cotter pin temporarily is fine, but if you don't replace it with the OEM bushing, the shaft and the hole , will soon start to wear and then you'll be replacing the linkage instead of a 2 dollar part.

Have had a cotter on mine for 7 years with no problems, maybe I'm just lucky.

Awesome. You've had it for that long. I'm surprised actually. Until the day it's warn enough and you park on an incline and it's only part way in park because of the wear and jumps out of park and rolls . Do you have saw dust in the rear end and duct tape on the brake lines too?

Well, apparently the originals are prone to failure too, or I wouldn't have had a cotter pin, and the OP would not have his linkage dangling at the moment.
