Can someone tell me what that is hanging and how to fix it?

I may be wrong, but isn't that your gear shift selector rod (or whatever it's called). Are you able to shift into gear correctly? Does the gear show up on your dash correctly?

That's it. That is the rod that goes from your steering column to your tranny. It has linkage it fits into. Pull out your Haynes or Chiltons manual and it should tell you how to hook it up. Look for an open linkage that a rod will slip into on the side of your tranny.

look at the picture again, there is a metal tab with a hole in it to the right of the bar thats hanging down. if you rotate the bar up you will see that it lines up with that tab. i believe its supposed to have a quick clip on it to keep it from popping out.

What do I hold it together with? What do I pickup from the parts store?

like sheriff said, theres a quick clip on it that should just snap into place.

if the parts store doesn't have one or doesn't know wtf you're talking about, then i might go to a junk yard/used parts store and see if you can't pull it off a truck.
