Default Overhead Compass/Temp

My factory overhead compass/temp display stopped working altogether. No display whatsoever. It has power and all wires act as they should. My question is has anybody every had one of these go out on you?

unit has power. it just kicked on for about a minute and then the display just read 4 faint lines across it. the unit definitely has power to it. Is there any sensors to check, like the air temp sensor? If so, where is it located?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the sensor is located right on the rearview mirror. There's a wire that runs down from the display into the mirror.

if you have power going to it, and you can visually see things on the screen, but they are screwed up, your unit might be going bad. i wouldn't think it would have anything to do with the wires.

+1, probably something wrong with the unit itself.

If you want to check the temp sensor, you can. Usually its right behind and slightly above the grille (pretty much centered).

That's for the auto dim.

IIRC, there is no specific fuse for the OVH, but rather, I think it's tied into the dash fuse.

Thanks jasonw, would you recommend a junkyard unit to replace it? the display itself can actually be removed from the overhead cluster, so i wouldn't need the trim piece and lights to go along with it.

I'd try a junk yard piece if possible, yeah. I'm sure you can find a rolled or wrecked truck with a perfect or near perfect overhead.

That would be your best bet, unless you just like paying 3x the overall worth at a dealer.
