oil change lol
You are turning it the right direction, right? Counterclockwise (lefty loosy) for off, clockwise (righty tighty) for on?
How long has it been since your last oil change? I've never heard of a filter being that stubborn.

Do you torque the filter down when you change the oil? IMO, the filter should only be hand tight. Sometimes, the filter and the block will fuse together just from rust, or from the gasket on the filter. Another thought is that you cross threaded on the last oil change, but god I hope that that's not the case.
its been about 4 months since we changed the oil last but when we changed it we rubbed oil around the rubber ring put it on hand tight and then snugged it up with a strapp wrench i just have no clue i hope we didnt cross thread it
its only supposed to be 3/4-1 turn after the gasket touches the block, whats up with everyone wrenching their filters on so tight?
rumble, break out the channel locks, they'll open wide enough to get a good grip and when you squish it down all you have to do is keep adjusting them.

one time i was changing my aunts oil on her murano and the schmuck that had been the defacto "family mechanic" who was also a mechanic by trade, legit not shadetree, used the filter wrench on hers and i had the screwdriver literally tear it damn near in half to get it off. no damage other than to that poor defenseless filter.
same guy that tried to tell me that my 1998 Volvo S70 T5 had a 2.4L motor and not a 2.3L becuase his manual said that there wasnt a 2.3L that year, even though i could point out the displacement on the hood sticker, online, with any literature available to anyone.... that it was a 2.3L. Needless to say, im the defacto family mechanic now (good thing i always want to know more about, well anything really). but thats OT lol. my bad

I never used a wrench to tighten my filter. Always by hand. And ive never heard of tightening the filter with a wrench.(till now)
Only taking the filter off is when i wrench should be used. After the engine has been started and heated up that many times its gonna be harder to get off than it would be if you put it on and took it right off...So the wrench is probly needed after those many miles. In other cases ive been able to take the filter off by hand(lost my wrench) but it was hard to get a grip. My hand kept sliding around the filter. Anyway, like i said. I never use a wrench to tighten a filter.
Good luck getting it off, the screw driver threw the filter should have worked. Like somone said, Make sure your turning it the right way.
Oh yea, If that wrench you were using was too big and slipping. Put alot of electrical tape around the round wrench part that goes around the filter and that should tighten up the fit. And it should grip it. If not, use more tape. One time my wrench was too big for a filter and i tried that. And it worked great, gripped it good.
