All the instructions I ever read on the filters or boxes said tighten 3/4 turn AFTER THE GASKET MAKES CONTACT.

Haha nice. I also never heard of using a wrench to tighten the filter, only to take it off. I would just be afraid of not being able to take it off...

They make filter sockets, about 3 different sizes, autozone and murrays have them for about $5.
They grip into the little dimples on the bottom and work pretty good, if you have the right size.
But if you bent the bottom out of shape they likely won't work.

Well I do and I dont see why some dont. I mean its like you could put neosporin on that cut, but I wont because most of the time it wont get infected..

That doesn't work. The only reason people fill the filter with oil is because they have this thought stuck in their head that an empty filter will make the engine scavenge for oil. This line of thought is mostly true, but if your using the stock filter size, it's not an issue. There isn't enough filter volume to worry about. Not to mention, I dunno if people that fill the filter are taking that out of their 5 quarts, or they are in turn adding the full 5 quarts on top of filling the filter. Either way, on mine, leaving the filter untouched, and just filling with 5 quarts, puts me right in the middle of the SAFE line.

On tightening the filter, I run with it hand tight. That's all. I've never had one fall off, and neither has my Stepfather. Him being an ASE certified tech, and changing oil all his life, I'd say it's okay. I do grant that a person's arm strength plays a huge role in this. What's hand tight to me, could be completely torqued to another person.

I use a K&N filter and fill it, Its larger than the Mopar. If you think about it though. There is a time where there is no oil in the engine when you first start it. Granted it only goes without for about 2 seconds but still. Its so easy to put some in why not do it? And I use about 1/2 a quart in filter and the rest in and gets perfectly on the SAFE line. oh well

Did you remember to oil up the filter gasket?
If you didn't, you might have a hard time getting the gasket off next time.

Also, as has been talked about, tightening the filter too much when you install it, can make it tough to remove. (Basically, tighten the filter hand tight, don't crank down on it)
