I don't know what kind of filters everyone uses, but if it's a WIX. You see those little symbols on the side of the filter that tells you how to install it? the first one is remove, the second one is oil the ring, the third one is hand tight, and the fourth one is +3/4 of turn. I don't know about ya'll , but that extra 3/4 turn is going to require a wrench in one form or another. Like I said, I only do a 1/4 turn, so whatever I guess.

i do almost a full turn with one hand after the gasket touches. but i use the mopar filter and it has a pretty squishy gasket.

So after you already have it hand tight to begin with, you can tighten it more? How is that possible after you already have it hand tight? LOL Oh and btw, get a WIX and some Cyclo while your there.
