I also agree with the 4 low option.

With 3.55 gears and 35's you would be hard pressed to keep your RPM's up in first gear alone. I would for sure put it in low range.

Im assuming they will put me in the stock division cuz if they dont im gonna get my a$$ handed to me. my truck is very slow on pavement. the only way i ever win races is when we go off road
In Illinois...cool. I used to do it in the Aledo area, and in a spot just across from Muscatine Iowa.
With those 35s...you're probably gonna get stuck a a 33 inch tire and up class, and you are gonna get your **** whooped. Sorry... Those guys (in your class) run modded motors and lower gearing. But have fun and go with an open mind because most guys are willing to help a newbie. Its a great time to work on leaving too, since you will have to 'tree anyone to give them a race.
To be competitive in that class, I would go down to a 33x13.5 swamper (with your gears), run headers, 1.7 rockers, a bigger or modded TB and a tranny cooler and temp guage. If you get hooked, plan on a gear swap and a rear locker.
HAVE FUN!

You could overheat the OD unit if your transmission tries to shift into OD.

Actually.. will it even shift into overdrive in 4HI when cruising on the highway? Anyone know if the OD control circuits have a lockout when in 4x4??
It would make sense not to use it because the extra drag of the front axle and whatever reason you need the traction of 4x4 for.

Yes it will, at least my '99 will. I've cruised along at 55mph in OD in 4H with no problem. You will NOT make it if you try to go through this mud pit with OD on. The motor won't be able to keep the tire speed up and these trannies have trouble with late downshifting anyway. If you leave OD on, like others have said there's a good chance you'll damage something.

Can't be late for work, even if the roads are slick.
