Mud Drag
im goin to do a mud drag in my 99 lifted dodge 1500 and i was wondering what yall thought the best way to do that is. should i use 4 high or 4 low or lock er down in first or what? the strip is about 55 yards long and thick mud
I go hill climbing and mudding every weekend. It's all about forward momentum. Once you lose forward momentum and spinning the wheels going no where, it's time to stop and backup or get pulled out before something expensive breaks.
I run about the same length mud pit your referring to and I just hammer on it enough to get through it but not to the point I lose control of it.

Wow! I used to do this back in the late 90s with my 78 Ramcharger and all too briefly with my '97 Ram. Most fun you can have on an afternoon that doesn't involve sex, fishing, or shooting stuff.
A lot depends on the gears you have. If you were runnig 3:55s 4lo is the only way to go. With 4:56s you might try a couple runs in 4 hi. If you have an Auto, I'd keep it in drive but leave the OD off. ...Plan on destroying your tranny quickly if you don't keep it cool. A 5 speed is a bit tougher, again based on the gears. If you can spin it by leaving in second you will probably float the valves off the rev limiter, and bog badly if you have to shift.
What class are they putting you in? I had to run a higher class with my Ramcharger because I was running 33 inch tires. I really had to clean the 'tree to try and beat the higher powered trucks in that class.
BTW OP...you meant mud dragging not mud bogging. Big difference between the two.

Where is this mud bog?
There's one next Saturday near me in Troy, MT.
I want to compete, or maybe just play in the mud pit, but I'm running on my crappy highway spare
Maybe next time when I have money for good tires.

Im assuming they will put me in the stock division cuz if they dont im gonna get my a$$ handed to me. my truck is very slow on pavement. the only way i ever win races is when we go off road
