Default Tranny shifting trouble

Hello all,

So I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 with 111,000 miles and the tranny is now acting very weird, It dont want to shift and then it will every now and then and you will be driving then it drops down to 1st from any other gear. Help!! I changed the governor tranny censor and the other one next to it I forget the name of it. Any Ideas???? Has anyone had this problem????
any help would be great.
Thanks
Rich

welcome to df. search for posts by forum member "montec". he was the transmission expert on here for awhile. his posts sort of went in 2 directions. it was either "replace governor pressure sensor and solenoid" or "rebuild". check out his posts, they're very informative, but tend to be short. unfortunately for us, our stock transmissions suck.

Do you have a CEL and checked for codes? Mine was acting up and it threw a code for the Governor Pressure Sensor, but since you replaced that and the Solenoid, I'm not too sure. Would it make a difference if the PCM was reset?

It was just a thought... When mine started to mess up, it first took a long time to go into OD. Then, it would hang in 1st gear and I would have to wind it out to redline to get it to shift and it would, but OD wouldn't engage. But, like I said, I got a CEL and threw a code for the Gov. Pressure Sensor, so I replaced it and the Gov. Pressure Solenoid. That fixed mine, but if yours is still acting up, your best bet would probably be to let a tranny shop take a look. I don't think (correct me if I'm wrong) that you will get any codes for problems with the tranny other than electrical components.

So I know this has been asked somewhere on this forum but I cant find it. I found a tranny out of a 97 ram with a 318 thats rebuilt, will it work in my 01 ram with a 360 or do I have to change some thing to make it. The tranny vin is PK521195412918-2292. My truck vin is 1B7HF13Z21J01430. Can anyone tell me?????? It would be greatly Appreciated.
