I checked into this. The dealers can do whatever they want with everything but the tranny and engine, which must be destroyed. So, on top of the $4,500 they'll get of our tax dollars, they get to make money off the used parts, which can be considerable on vehicles like Jeep Cherokees and Hondas. This program should be renamed Sex With Citizens, because we're all getting screwed.

Don't worry. In 6 months when people start defaulting on their new car loans at least they'll have a nicer car to live in until it gets repossesed.

If you do do it, strip teh **** out of your truck. I mean everything, the interior panels, the bed, all lights, get some ****ty rims and tires to put on it, seats, dashboard cover, hell take the hood and bumpers. You'd be an idiot to not strip your truck down to bare bones.

this just gives me even more reason to keep my truck...and swap a 5.9 cummins in, and put the 318 and 46RH in the jeep

then take said cummins repowered ram and do big black diesel smoke burnouts in front of the white house with it

I thought about doing this to my S-10 and maybe trading it in for a Ranger (The only compact left), but the only thing is that the 2.2 doesnt qualify!!! I hate the damn motor in my S-10! Its slow, leaks oil like a tanker, and only gets around 22 MPG. That said, insurance paid it off a couple of weeks ago, so I cant complain much.

Please do not give your truck to Cash For Clunkers!! It is too nice to be crushed and the motor locked up! If you are going to do that, I will gladly give you $3500 for it!

I don't know if I can bring myself to do that to my truck though. That's like putting down a perfectly good dog b/c you don't want him anymore.

Tough decision...
Go with your heart squirrels, not your brain.
From what I heard, the clunker program is not much of an option anyhows, unless they "vote" in a few more odd billion $$ or so.
