Question hey guys need an answer

Ok guys i have a friend that just bought a 95 1500 4x4 and his front drive shaft spins when he floors it, when i looked at it i shook it a lil and the rattle is coming from where the transfer case connects to the drive shaft ... my question is has anyone ever had this problem and how was it fixed? the drive shaft shouldn't spin no matter what when the truck is parked and off, am i correct? i was told by someone he knows that im full of ****. it should when hes not in 4wd, but mine doesn't spin when my trucks off and in park. So im just needing to know if im right, which i believe i am, and like i said if anyone eles has had this problem how was it fixed? Thanks for always being here guys and heres a pic of the truck in question

The transfer cases on these trucks are full-time. Power goes to both front and rear driveshafts at all times. Power is disengaged from the front axle via the CAD disconnect. If the front shaft can be spun by hand when in park, something is not right.

i am in the middle of fixing this problem on my truck. (99 Sport 1500) I took the driveshaft off and am rebuilding the double cardan joint that is what i believe you are saying is causing this rattle.

Here's the rebuild link i was given.

and here's the link to my threads on this issue.

That is not true Miami. The front output does NOT lock in until the transfer case is in 4 hi or 4 low. Go get under your truck in 2 wheel, you will be able to spin the front shaft.

To the original poster, from what I gathered from your post it sounds like the front driveshaft on your buddy's truck is spinning when the truck is not moving (just giving it gas), is that correct? That would be a weird one.

Hmmm...I'll have to check that out. If the front driveshaft is disconnected in 2 wheel drive then why the need for the CAD? Is it to stop the front axle from turning the driveshaft? Seems silly since it will turn from rotational friction anyway and the CAD is so prone to failure or damage.

thanks for all the help guys. when i have my 97 with the truck off, in park, and in 2wd my front drive shaft doesn't spin at all. his is a 95 and with his truck off and in 2wd his spins freely. when he drives it and is tryin to pass someone or something like that it makes a rattling noise. when i checked his drive shaft is when i found out it would spin freely in 2wd. and with the truck off the rattle is coming from where the transfer case meets the drive shaft.
