Talking And so it begins...

Well, my dad I just got back from Baytown with some goodies in the bed of his truck. A 408 block, Eddy heads, and an M1 manifold for only $1200!!!!!

But with all good news comes bad news. The motor supposedly was pulled after oil pressure dropped some 20-40 miles after the build. According to the guy, it spun a bearing. So for sure the crank is probably gonna have to be turned. A lot of inspection is gonna have to be done so we can figure out what other kinda work its gonna take, but overall I'm really excited.

For $1200 we got:
  • the 408 block (forged crank, forged pistons, cam with a 500 or so lift and other whatnots from the stroker kit)
  • Edelbrock aluminum heads
  • Mopar Performance M1 manifold
  • An assorted number of hardened pushrods (apparently the wrong size though)
  • A spare distributor and gear
  • Double row timing chain
  • Torque converter (stock)
The block, heads, and manifold were separated, so its basically gonna need a new gasket set. Unfortunately the guy sold the MP 1.7s before we got around to making a trip to his house so I was a little disappointed. The heads need to be checked out, because it looks like the valves may have been hitting the pistons due to an improper pushrod length. Hopefully the valves are still true.

The block didn't include much except for the block itself and the stroker kit. So what I need to know first is what can interchange from my 318 to the 408, and what I'm going to need to buy. I want to know if the SCT is capable of flashing my 318 PCM to handle the 408. And last, what do you guys suggest for a color/polish scheme for the block and accessories?

I'll post pics tomorrow hopefully as we unload the block from the back of my dads truck and hook it up to the engine stand. This is gonna be a spare time/spare money build, so we're shooting for around December break to install it.

All in all, I'm stoked!!!!!!

Mopar orange block with chrome valve covers. Top it off with Edelbrock or Mopar 14x3.

Sounds awesome, man! Good luck!

Dont have the tuner yet. I was just concerned over any differences there may be in the 318/360 sensors.
