A properly sized remote turbo will not lag anymore than a front mount. Overall efficiency will never be as good but rear mount turbos are capable of incredible things.
I'm persoanlly gathering parts right now to build a remote turbo setup on my truck.
Wow. Sweet video. I want something like that, but need it to be good for dailey driving in MAINE! Thats why I was thinking blower/root supercharger.
A turbo has better driveability and typically if driven like a sane person, your gas mileage should be at least equal or better.
I'm going to put my filter up in the side of the bed on my truck along with a K&N outerwears cover for it and possibly a shield. And it rains a lot here, in fact it's raining right now..
That was was pretty good, love the fact the lightning couldn't hang with the Rams...lol. I've been looking into the stuff a lot more over the last day and talked with one of the guys at work about it again and since I like to off-road a good amount, he suggested that instead of putting the turbo's in the fenders like the sts system, I could fab a box inside the forward part of my bed and mount them inside there. This guy is so into this now that he started sketching me up some examples. I still haven't desided because I still have another 6 months until I return to the states but a remote turbo charger system is looking like a good idea. He even started pricing parts for me to put together my own system inside of spending the money on a sts kit. It'll be cheaper but I'll see what I'll do later.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that these manum engines couldn't handle boost unless it has forged pistons.
Headgaskets not withstanding, you can run over 10 PSI if properly tuned. Duner over on the dakota forums has a stock bottom end 5.9 and cranks it up to ~15PSI and runs in the 10s on the 1/4. There are many others boosting stock bottom end magnums.
Stock headgaskets, I'd keep the boost at 7 PSI or less.
