Default Squire Turbo System

Have any of you heard about this system? One of the guys that I work with, who's a big car nut, has been telling me about this system for the last few days. Even though I told him I really don't have an interest in this system, for now at least, he keeps on brining it up every time he hears me and some of the guys talking about our trucks or cares and whether we're going to turbo or supercharge our stuff. It's kinda interesting because the way everyone knows to do turbo's has them installed up front in the engine bay but this system is the opposite. The turbo(s) are mounted in the very back of the vehicle. When this system first came out, people were saying it wouldn't work and what not but after the first run with the system and countless other applications since, it has shown to be a highly effective mod with results up to 100+ hp.

I'm not even close to thinking about installing forced induction anything on my truck yet...still gotta deside if I want to rebuild my 360, go for a 408 stroker, or swap it out for a 440. But I figured it'd be worth a shot to see if anyone has heard of this.

Yes, STS turbos have been around for a little while now with proven results. Is that all you wanted to know?

No, I just kinda wanted to see if I could spark up a conversation about this because up until the guy at work mentioned this, I've only seen/heard people tlaking about superchargers and regular front mounted turbo chargers. I just wanted to see what people think about it and which of the 3 they'd prefer, ya know?

It just seems to me that there would be a lot of turbo lag with the charger so far back.

STS has been around for a few years now.
From what Ive heard turbo lag is not much of an issue with the STS setups. Biggest issue I see with this system is if your 4x4 and go off roading or driving in the rain with either 4x or 2x. Wont do a lot of good getting a bunch of mud/water on/in the air filter which is located at the back of the truck under the bed.

1+ on water issue. For the trucks, STS has made a kit that is kinda like a snorkel It will relocate the air filters back up into the fender wells to help keep the element dry. They also have the dry charge kits just like K&N and others sell.
STS claims to have about the same amount of spool lag as a conventional turbo. We haven't noticed an issue on our drag car that has a stage 1 dual setup.
Here is the bad news STS does not have a true bolt on kit for the 2nd gen rams. They make universal kits sold in three different styles. Stage 1 Stage 2 and Stage 3. All this denotes from them is the level of completeness of the kit. I think stage 1 has just the basics. The trubo and some essential plumbing. While Stage 3 has most everything you need. We bought the Stage 1 because everything on our trans am was going to need custom plumbing anyways, so it was smarter to go that route.

They are proud of their systems, but sometimes you can get lucky and find kits on Ebay and Craigs list. IMO I would only ever buy NIB items.

On a truck that has such a large engine bay like ours, I'd think it seems too complicated for the results. On cars like Corvettes and Mustangs, I think it is a great idea because of the cramped quarters. But need I remind you that our engine bays fit a big 488 Ci V-10 and a 359 CI turbo diesel with much room to spare. Hell, you have enough room to put twin turbos in it! But on our trucks, a rear mounted turbo wouldnt be feasible. Just MHO!

Check out 1:15 on the video, the Ram with STS spoils up pretty fast. Lag is very little. One advantage of the rear mount is as the hot compressed air travels away from the turbo it expands as it cools. Check it out.
