If we have done this is correctly the fog lamps should not work, and everything else should work as normal. If they still work with this fuse removed then we are back at square one and this is not a safe mod.

Just went out and pulled the fuse, and it does kill the fogs. epic success??

The only modification I can see at this point would be to change the connector. And 94-98 trucks would have to switch to 99-01 fog light housings. But with this modification you would NEED to use the relay.

Does anybody know the color wire on the back of the headlight switch that goes to the relay? My truck did not come from the factory with fog lights, but I added Mopar ones and built my own harness with a relay and switch. Now I would like to get a factory fog light switch and run that wire to the relay to switch it on. 99 and newer please.
Does the 99 have the fog lamp switch built into the headlight switch or is it located separately next to the OD switch on the dash? If its built into the switch then you can look at the factory service manual on here for down load and it will show you how its wired depending on weather or not you have DRL. Look in this section 8W-50-10 FRONT LIGHTING Fog Lamps. Scroll thru that section and see if this helps you.

I'm glad it worked. Are you useing the fused jumper? It would'nt hurt to use it just as extra insurance.

P.S. not sure if this 'VOIDS' the warrenty HAHA!
Glad that that is cleared up.

So as reference:

1997 Dodge Ram with TWO fog lamp relays:

This jumper mod will work just fine. All it does it not allow a relay to open the fog light circuit when high beams are turned on.

The relay which powers the fog lamps (the other one of the two) should NOT be tampered with.

Thanks Capt. Obvious for figuring this out.

Ya, got a 10 amp fuse in there, figured it couldn't hurt to have one....

I just went for a drive and the foglights worked great, high or low beam. My foglight switch and indicator light work normal as well.

i've had mine bypassed since the date on the first post with no issues.
i now have my fog lights wired like the diagram in the first post. when i was installing my aftermarket lights i raked the wire clippers across the bumper as i was clipping the factory fog light wires that go to the passenger light and popped the fog light fuse in the PDC. rookie mistake i know, i had the jumper wire in the fog light relay slot and i still had the battery connected. so there shouldn't be any worries about the fog light circuit with the mod because the fog light fuse will pop if they were to get overloaded.

as has probably already been said and i missed it, the relay is there to power the fog lights and to cut power to the fog lights when the headlight switch is flipped to high beams and that is all it is for.

Maxx_Magnum, did you snap a picture of the jumper in your PDC? if so then send it to me and i'll put it in the first post. some people have an easier time of understanding with pictures.

ok, gotcha. i missed the red wire, i was focused on the inline fuse. btw, you hooked it up to the 87a slot (up top) and it should also work in the 87 slot that is parallel to the bottom of the new wire. the 87a and the 87 slot are the same so it doesn't matter which one the wire is plugged into.
