Yes stainless can be welded with a tig welder but is real expensive to have done you could just lower the cable a bit to get about six or so inches of cable showing and take the bracket that holds the tire up and drill a hole through the center of it just arge enough for the cable and then go to home depot or lowes or any hardware store and get cable clamps that have the u bolt swtup like a muffler clamp and put one above the bracket and bend the cable in half below it and put a clamp there. Cheap simple and easy fix. Oh and yes it will hold that tire there as they are used in many situations for holding high tension cables in place. I used them on my quad winch cable and have used it to tow vehicles around so I think it will hold a 50lb tire in place.

I find it funny that so many of you guys live in cold snowy areas, yet your sigs always show sunny days. Only Olylr has a sig with snow in it. You guys trying to hide something?

You haven't been around long enough yet. my old sig used to be me playing in the snow. Once we get more snow on the ground, I'm taking pics again. I don't think a truck can look any better when it's shined up and sitting in two feet of snow.

speeddemon - I have thought almost that exact thing, I think I just may do something along those lines, and maybe put a double clamp on just for safety, don't need this **** happening again ,,, And then rig up that secondary restraining device in the very near future.
wayfast1500 said in post #29 that his tire winch is shot, and uses two ratchet straps to secure the tire, if nothing else I'll throw in at least 1 until I think of something better.

I have to verify my suspicion that I only lost an inch or two of cable, if thats the case I should be good as gold rigging this up.

Ram1500, you make a good point - I just took my sig pic a few months ago, I think I'll update it the 1st blizzard we get.

Ok heres what I came up with - I just made a loop with the cable, had this anchor pin handy so I just used that to hold it in, and tied it up with a couple of cable clamps.

Damn nuts were so close together a socket wouldn't go over them with both of them on, so I tightened one up on each as much as I could, then tightened the other one with pliers.
Before putting it back on, I'm going to put another set of nuts on each post, with locktite - And that should do it.

Feel a little goofy taking it off now, I could have done this in place if I had thought about it, at least now I know these tire winches come out easy, in case the need arises again.
