440 swap
ok... was just woundering, i dont know if anyone here has done it before.
i am going to eventually make my truck into a play truck and just be unstoppable. i wanted to put a 440 big block into my 98 ram 1500 to turn the 42" tires it will have soon.
anyone got any like swap kits you know of. make the swap easier...
or would you guys just say to make it a 408 and be happy?

I just go finished with this swap here are some pics
there are universal mounts for the 440 and thats what i used and retro fitted the 727 to the factory trans mount plate i just got it running yesterday so far the timing is a little off and the trans kickdown needs adjusting but she runs strong

well for right now i think the truck has enough power with the 318 i have, i dont know what it is, i mean, i have driven vipers, so i know what power is, but this truck as some gutless power, i dont know how, but i think if i drop a fresh 408 in it, and put the M1 intake, holley throttle body, it should be just fine for what i need... but i am going to check out the 440 swap... i think it is cool

my only thing is i still want it obdII legal. so i can pass inspection, and run this motor, i would have to make the wireing harness.... i dont know if all the is worth, the little extra power i can get froma 408, not to mention, the motor mounts, the trans mounts, get new transfercase, and make a ount for that... then to hook up the new trans to a stock setup gear sellector... i dont know if all thats worth it

I've actually given this swap some consideration in the past but just don't have the funds
to pull it off. If i were doing the I would take the 440 manifold and have it drilled for injector bosses and have the head drilled to accept the cps. Throw an nv4500 behind it
and have it dyno tuned with an sct programmer. This way you can keep it FI and it would probubly be cheaper and an FI 440 kit.

well. to keep this whole thing simple.. 450 hp is alot.. and that is very doable with the 408.. i know i can only go to a 390 with a 318, i would be geting the crate motor from summit, and then changing a few thigns on it before i put it in...
i think to keep the heavy heavy fabriation work to a min... i ill just go with the 408 stroker... change the intake to an M1 intake, do the good holley TB, and tune it, stock injectors... and a good head gasket... it will make plenty of power for what i need, and i need the little hgiher RPM's for a little bit, like holding it down a bit, nd keeping it there... big blocks dont like high RPM's liek we all know.. but a stroker, i wouldnt have to hold as high to make the power i need... besides,, this thing will have 5. something low gears when i do the 408.. so i dont need the big block..
besides, the wieght of that bg block, is enough to sink the front end reall fast in what i do
