Angry Please help...New tires scraping inner fender well..

I got a new set of 285 75 16 AT tires yesterday and love them, but they are scraping badly when I turn corners. I looked at the inner fender well but can't really figure out how to mod them to keep the new tires from scraping. Any help would be appreciated.

Is your truck a 2X4 or 4X4? Can't really tell from the pic and it's not in your profile info or sig.

Why did you buy such a big tire for a 2X4? Stock is 245. Didn't the tire shop warn you they might rub?

For one thing, there's no problem with buying a larger tire for a 2WD. I enjoy having extra clearance out here on the farm even though I have a 2WD. I recently put 285's on mine as well with a 1.5" spacer and have no rubbing problem at all. That's odd...

Some trucks' suspensions sag a little more than others, especially if they have as many miles on them as that one does. 180,000 miles (almost) isn't terrible at all, but it is more than a few.

I would go back to the tire shop, show them how wrong they were, and see about exchanging them for 265s. Hell, what type of 285s did you get? I'll swap you my 265s for your 285s.

As i told my wife the truck actually rides and handles better with these tires so I really don't want to get rid of them. As far as the tire shop they might take them back not sure though. They are actually rubbing the fender wells at the back toward the door. if you look at your inner wells there is a ridge there at the door and that is where they are rubbing. I can try and post a couple of pics tomorrow. here is a pic of a RAM with the spot it is rubbing circled. EndIsNear, i wonder if it is because you have the spacer on it. Has that caused any problems with your bearings? I heard that they can. I also have a 2" level insert in the springs to level out the front end, but I ddidn't use the shock extensions when I did it. I wonder if that could have caused the problem as well.

Nope, haven't had any bearing problems. What about with your 2"? I'm planning on upgrading to 2.5" later. I didn't use shock extensions, ride is comfortable and smooth, and I have absolutely no rubbing what-so-ever. Mine looks as though I still have plenty of usable room. Maybe your springs are worn out and sagging a little, and it's basically making that 2" spacer a 0"-1" lift. Somebody on here put a 3" coil on their 2WD and stated they had no problems with the geometry... Maybe new springs could be your answer. And rebending your rear leafs could make up for the height. That's hard to say without actually observing your suspension. If I can get a side picture, you can compare it to yours and maybe see if your suspension is sagging. Or maybe mine is

The coil spacer have been great and I will say that the ride improved greatly! The funny thing about the tire rubbing is they only do it when I turn. I looked around here for new coils but no one has been able to get any. They say they don't carry them. I guess I will have to look on summit. Jasonw, Thank you for the kind offer of trading tires but the drive is long and the shipping is killer . Any more ideas guys?
