Default Removed TB spacer...WOW!

alright heres how it goes...

i installed a CAI and the TB spacer at the same time. i was so happy that i finally got it and about the way it looked that i guess i tricked myself into thinking that it helped.

WRONG!!!

i removed the TB spacer last night and i was amazed! throttle response is 100 times better and it even idles better. Who would have thunk it...lol.

however, the bottom side of the butterflies, the TB spacer, and the entire inside of the intake is covered in a disgusting, greasy, oily, sticky, black gunk.

is this normal? why is it there? is it hurting anything? what can i do?

You have a plenum gasket leak. Get a new intake or just the plate from Hughes. There's lots of stuff here on the issue.

If you have the parts and tools, and decent experience using them.

Hmmm. They are supposed to prevent the intake heat from reaching the TB and, on my Hughes FI, it works. The TB remains cool despite the intake being very hot.

Now, if the riser block was leaking at the gasket areas, then, surely that would have a negative effect on performance thus giving the user the impression that it works better w/o one when in fact, the real issue was a leak at the intake and TB interface.

The other area of concern is how well the gasket is trimmed to the port opening and whether or not there is an overhang of gasket material in the opening thus impeding air flow.

it may keep the tb cooler, but there is no fuel going thru it so its pointless

Oh, he's talking about when using one with the keg style? Gotcha. Agreed.
