Thumbs down How My Interior Was Destroyed

I am beyond upset with this. When I bought my truck, the only thing I didn't really like about it was the light gray interior. It wasn't a deal breaker, I just had gray in every car/truck I've ever had, and I would have liked a change.

My girlfriend, without asking my opinion or anything, took my truck to a guy to change the interior to black. How did he change it? Black spray paint! Duplicolor vinyl/cloth spray paint to be exact. Every interior part, seats, door panels, dash, everything except the headliner is now black. It is horrible.

He did no prep at all, painted right over dirt and everything. For example, I like to drive with my window open, and when I use the wipers, sometimes water/wiper fluid will drip down onto the door panel. I can see the stain and feel the water spots through the paint. There are runs on every panel.

The interior of my truck was in perfect condition, I'm the second owner, and except for the cracked dash, it was perfect. The cloth seats, which were nice and soft, no rips or anything, now feel hard and crusty from the paint.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? If I didn't owe $5000 on the truck, I would literally trade it an another Ram today. I want my normal interior back, not this rediculous p.o.s. of an interior.

I'm thinking I am going to have to have the seats re-upholstered, but is there any kind of solvent that I can use on the plastic door panels, dashboard, ect? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Xylene is an industrial solvent, and will eat through just about any paint.

Its hard to get straight xylene unless you have industrial contacts, its usually diluted and sold under various name brands, just make sure its xylene based.
Try a little test patch in some out of the way place, as it may discolor/distort the stock panel too, once its eaten through the paint.
Watch for fumes, this stuff is potent - And also, it will soak through your skin, so use heavy rubber gloves. Not the cheap ones, it will eat those too.

If that don't work, and I have a hard time believing that it wouldn't, try some "aircraft paint remover".
This **** is even worse than xylene, if it don't clear your panels, my name is Tyrone.
Be very cautious, it will burn skin on contact.

I'm not sure the solvents are going to do any good on the upholstry. You might just need to pull some other seats and carpet from a doner truck.

Dude, i would be so pissed off. I think it would be the first time i hit a woman(or coming close to it). Wow, sucks man, Id go and kick the guy who did it in his *** too. Like said above, you can go to a junk yard and find another ram. Then you'd be set, But id try to find one with black interior since thats what you'd want. Also remember, you could get a black dash cap and i seen some nice black seat covers with the dodge ram logo in the center on ebay awhile back. The dash cap wont cover the bottom part of the dash but you could always sand that and paint it the right way.

Beat her with the phone book. It won't leave any marks.

Well, in her defense, she was trying to do something nice for me, as she knew I wasn't crazy about the gray interior. Still upset with her though. Maybe I can use this to get that threesome I've been wondering about haha. What I'm thinking of doing is this: getting a xylene-based product to hopefully get the paint off the interior pieces. I think I might just have the seats re-covered. Has anyone ever had this done, or know how much that would cost? For the front and rear seats. Thanks to everyone for your help. I'm just so pissed off, because I looked long and hard for my truck, and I finally found one that I love. It is (or was) in great condition, only one owner, the innterior was perfect. It was the first nice vehicle I've ever owned, and now it looks like total crap inside. I am seriously considering getting another Ram, because no matter what I do, I don't think it'll ever be the same on the inside.
