Don't do it. Don't buy a gasoline 3rd gen... get a Cummins at least. I wouldn't pay anything for a 3rd Gen gasser. I would buy a 2nd gen Cummins with the VP44 or a first gen with a P-Pump -drool-

Not all Diesels were/are created equal. It doesn't happen. Every single Diesel motor out there has some sort of pit fall.

Duramax- Aluminum heads- too thin. Tend to warp under load. $1200+ fix. At the time, the injectors for the 6.6 was almost $400.00 a set.

Powerstroke- The 7.3 was a stout engine. The 6.0? Anemic as hell. Turbo issues on the 6.0, head gasket failure, fuel injection module failure.... On and on. The 6.4? Only get one of those if you really really want the truck to do a regen and then burn to the ground.

Cummins- Early 12 valve- Great. 24 valve- Kind of on the anemic side too when you compare it to other diesels of the same era. The 6.7? LOL You better drive like a bat out of hell all the damn time if you want decent MPGs and a motor that operates efficiently. If the EG temps don't get high enough, the truck wont complete a regeneration, and then you have a clogged up exhaust which requires a trip to a dealer to have fixed. I hate to admit it, but if and that's a big IF Ford keeps their word, they claim to have a Ford diesel block that will be pushing almost 850 HP at the crank. It's still unclear. If this happens, Cummins and Izuzu are going to have some extreme catching up to do.

I've been told this many times, and I see the truth in it:

Buy a Powerstroke if you want/need to tow all the time.
Buy a Duramax if you want to turn it into a street drag truck
Buy a Cummins if you want have an extreme play toy.

Dodge needs to be careful on their Diesel game. They have failed to follow through with the promise of a 1500 turbo diesel. It's not Cummins' fault that this hasn't happened. Cummins has already spent the research money needed, and they have the motor the 1500. Dodge has just failed to use it. IIRC, Cummins really isn't under obligation to where Dodge is the only one that can utilize their small diesel.
Are you serious???
All diesels have their own issues, worries, and fixes but so do gas engines.

Buy a Cummins 5.9 if you are looking for a 3rd gen Mega (06-07.5) Unless you want to deal with deletes and emissions.

Do some research before you buy any truck, and go drive a diesel truck. I looked at several before I bought mine and I'll never own a gasser again.

I've owned many trucks and after a year and 20K miles, this buy far is the best.

Hey, I wasn't bashing diesels. Just merely proving they have their own soft spots just like a gas burners. Trust me, if it were up to me, oil burners would be the only thing on this place. I just can't create a logical argument that states I need one as a daily driver right now.

Ramman, if you have something of substance to add, please do. If all you want to do is stir up trouble, you should find somewhere else to do it.

Boy I don't know what the heck I did to you in a past life but you need to lay off me. Give me a break already. What should I have said? "I agree 100% Sweetie-pie " How am I stirring things up?

I did not agree with his assessment of Fords being the best tow diesel and Dodges being only a toy diesel. All I see out west is Dodges pulling huge loads over the mountains and Fords broken down on the side of the road. Am I suppose to support Ford on this forum??? Please enlighten me as to how I became such a nuisance to you in just a few months when I've been on here for years.

Ok, fine. Op, go get the gas mega cab you want so bad. You'll love it.

Neither do I. Differences of opinion are fine, but confrontational responses designed to do nothing but cause trouble aren't. If anyone needs an example of what's acceptable just look at Oregon Sandrat's response. He disagreed and said why. This is called constructive criticism. Ramman's reply was nothing more than bait for a flame war and is unacceptable. I would think someone who's been here as long as he has would know the difference.
