zman, charging is not an issue now, truck shuddering then dying when put into gear is the problem.
That may be PCM related, I don't have anything concrete to suggest that it is, or even could be.
If the new solenoid doesn't work I'll try it, a guy on ebay has them for $180 shipped, and programmed by VIN. He offers a 14 day return, only losing the shipping charge so that sounds like a chance worth taking.

Yea, I was just sayin', who knows what happened to the pcm when the incident took place,

Worth a shot.
I still can't believe that a simple alternator swap has tuned into something like this.

More accurately, it locks up my browser.
If I try to run one on the hd, it just closes down with an error report.
So yeah, I'll have to uninstall it and install it again, I got the pro version on my hd somewhere, have to hunt for it.

Well, to wrap this long drawn out saga up, I put a new ECM in the truck and it seems to drive just fine.
Paid $190, with a with a lifetime warranty when I return the old one.
So apparently the guy who came to fix my charging problem not only fried the ECM, but mis diagnosed the resulting tranny lockup as a bad solenoid harness, so I pretty much dropped the valve body, spent $130 for a new harness/fluid for nothing.

Only good part is there was a busted spring on one of the accumulator pistons, I would have never known that if I didn't drop it.
How that affected the tranny I don't know, but I'm hoping she'll last the winter without any major problems.

One of the springs is normally left out of the accummulator during a rebuild, I believe this is part of the shift kit jr. instructions.

Yeah, one piston had just one spring, and my tranny was rebuilt years ago, before I bought the truck.
The other one, which is enclosed in a chamber, was the one that was busted.
That one you can get to pretty easy, no need to drop the valve body ... But I never would have thought to pop off its cover it wasn't for the VB drop.
I'd recommend to check that out whenever the pan is off, a tranny guy I know says he sees them busted all the time.
